Katharine Maness (they/them) is a trans non-binary, Jewish actor and producing artistic director based in NYC (and sometimes in the woods of Vermont).
Whether on stage or screen, they are passionate about stories that don't shy away from the vastness of humanity; stories that embrace discomfort and vulnerability, just as much as joy, audacity, and absurdity. They are especially excited to be part of any art that moves us all a little closer together at the end of the day.
Happiest in collaboration with imaginative, big hearted weirdos who are equally at home being silly clowns as they are cultivating ambitious ideas and work.
They have a special love for disrupting the Shakespearean canon with a fresh perspective on classical text & character that imagines possibility beyond the gender binary. Katharine is a graduate of The William Esper Studio's Full Time Program, having studied with David Newer, and with the late Bill Esper in the studio's invite-only alumni Shakespeare Intensive.
Coming up: This summer Katharine will reunite for a third time with Helen Hayes nominated director, Elizabeth Dinkova, on a brand new adaptation of King Lear for Shakespeare in the Woods' 2026 Season.
